Countdown to Valentine's Day! 9...

This really is a ton of fun, coming up with a new idea to highlight as every day we get closer to this lovely holiday!

Today's source of inspiration is a darling little project from Smitten on Paper via  Green Wedding Shoes, and is so downright simple and sweet, you are just going to swoon with glee!!  Take a look . . .

DIY HEART GARLAND

Supplies You Will Need:

~ Baker’s Twine
~ Stripes of paper in various sizes and colors
~ Hole Punch
~ Double Sided Tape

Directions:

Step 1: Grab a strip of paper and fold it in half. A variety of different size stripes of paper and colors will add some charm to your heart garland, trust us-it’ll be so cute when the hearts are in different weights of chubbiness!

Step 2: While your paper is still folded in half, add double sided tape to the outside of one end.

Step 3: Curl the two ends in until they meet in the middle and form the shape of a heart, then press down so it is secured by the tape.

Step 4: Add 3 hole punches. Add one in the center and one on the left and right side of the heart. Hole punch toward the top so the hearts don’t topple over when strung through with twine.

Once all your hearts are hole punched, just string through some baker’s twine and you’re done!

Twenty minutes later and you have the sweetest little banner, perfect for stringing along the mantel, along the TV stand, or wherever makes your heart content:) Photobucket

April Showers

Ahhh, April . . . definitely the most lovely month of Spring and most notably honored in verse for rainy days, or showers that bring on the flowers, if you will.  And can you think of a better way to pay tribute to such a month than this 'April Showers 3rd Birthday Party' designed by Danielle Arcese of Cutie Putti and brought to us via Kara's Party Ideas?  Just take a look . . .

Strawberry Cupcakes & A Free Pink Elephant Printable, Hooray!

Today you are in for a real treat . . . a sweet treat with these delicious Strawberry Cupcakes, a flavorful adaptation of the Sprinkles version brought to you by Cate's World Kitchen.  And as an extra special bonus, you will find a free printable pink elephant cupcake circle with instructions on how to surprise your little sweetie with a pretty plate of splendid snacks!

Cupcakes:
~ 3 tablespoons strawberry puree (just puree fresh or thawed frozen strawberries in a food processor)
~ 3/4 cup all purpose flour
~ 1/2 tsp baking powder
~ pinch salt
~ 2 tbsp whole milk
~ 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
~ 1/2 stick (1/4 cup) softened butter
~ 1/2 cup sugar
~ 1 egg

Frosting:
~ 1/4 cup soft butter
~ 1/2 cup thawed frozen (or fresh) strawberries, pureed and simmered until reduced by half
~ 1 3/4 cups powdered sugar
~ 1/4 tsp vanilla

To make the cupcakes:
(this makes 6 cupcakes but you can easily double this for a dozen and so on)

1.) Preheat the oven to 350 F and line a cupcake tin with 6 paper cupcake liners.  I am absolutely in love with these paper liners:

You can purchase these soufflĂ©/nut cups at Michaels or Smart & Final:)

2.) Sift the flour, baking powder and salt onto a piece of wax paper. Set aside.

3.) In a small bowl, whisk together the milk, vanilla, and strawberry puree.

4.) Cream the butter in the bowl of a stand mixer, and add the sugar. Beat for a few minutes, until light and fluffy.  Add the egg and mix on low until combined.

5.) Add half the flour mixture and mix briefly on low. Scrape down the bowl and add the milk mixture, mixing just until combined. Scrape down the bowl and add the remaining flour mixture. Mix on low, then divide the batter evenly among the prepared cupcake tins.

6.) Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of a cupcake comes out clean.  Cool in the pans for about 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

To make the frosting:

~ Beat the butter, sugar, and vanilla in the bowl of a stand mixer. Add the strawberry puree a teaspoon or two at a time until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.

And cupcakes always look best with pretty toppers, don't you think?

For the cupcake toppers, cut out the squares along their border and then punch with a 2” scallop circle or 2” circle punch, or if you prefer, you can cut them by hand or just leave them as squares and attach a long toothpick to the back.

You will get the best results if you use bright white card stock to print your files!

So go ahead and whip up 6 of these delicious strawberry cupcakes and give these printable circles a try.  You will never be able to make another batch without them:) Photobucket
